We began developing the MatWeb.com materials database in 1996 when data-driven websites were in their infancy. By 2010, when technically-savvy engineers, designers, molders, and machinists habitually use the Internet as their primary source of information, we had grown to a worldwide resource with over 73,000 materials and over 24,000 engineering and design users daily.

We spun off MatWeb as a separate, highly-successful business at the end of 2010. Over the course of 14 years, we went through five significant software rewrites and database transitions. We developed a deep dedication to accuracy, materials knowledge, and quantified search tools that met our engineering community’s needs. And we developed a business model that made it all succeed.
