About ITGA

The International Town and Gown Association (ITGA) serves as a global nonprofit organization committed to fostering the collaborative relationship between college campuses and their surrounding communities. ITGA fulfills its mission by convening gatherings, educating members and partner organizations, conducting research, sharing knowledge, and mobilizing its diverse membership to promote thriving communities worldwide.
ITGA is a diverse group of college and university administrators, city officials, and campus neighbors united in addressing shared campus challenges and new opportunities.
Objective

- Develop a flexible application to accommodate ITGA’s unique joint membership model, which includes both cities and universities.
- Implement automated reminders for membership renewals.
- Create an online member registration system, allowing users to add associate members to new and returning member accounts.
- Design a new online conference registration form.
- Transition to a new PCI compliant credit card processing provider.
- Build an online form for members to submit questions directly to the ITGA Director.
ACI Approach

ACI identified a robust Joomla membership component as the foundation for the new ITGA membership registration system, then extended the functionality with custom code to accommodate the unique ITGA membership features. The new registration process accommodates single payments for joint membership categories, adding a community college or an affiliate to a joint membership, and allowing organizations and universities to include multiple group members under a single registration plan. Additionally, new conference forms were developed enabling members to submit proposals for conference topics, upload conference presentations, and register for the annual conference. ACI implemented a new payment gateway, Authorize.net as the new credit card processing provider, ensuring secure and efficient payment handling.
The ITGA website, originally designed using a proprietary content management solution was built on outdated .NET technology. To modernize the platform, ACI recommended transitioning to Joomla, an open-source Web Content Management Software (CMS) built on MySQL and PHP in a Linux environment. Joomla offers a variety of modules, components, and plug-ins, providing functionality such as event calendars, forms, search capabilities, newsletters, and blogs. ACI continues to assist with website maintenance and the development of new features to enhance the platform and membership features.
